The Pleasanton Senior Center: An essential hub for services and programs for active adults
Senior Centers serve as a gateway to the nation's aging network by connecting older adults to vital services in the community that help them stay healthy and independent. Over 1,200 individuals walk through the doors each week to participate in over 25 classes, to eat lunch at the Sage Café, or to utilize various services offered at the Center.
The Pleasanton Senior Center’s mission is to provide activities and services that meet the diverse needs of mature adults and to assist them in maintaining healthy and independent lives. A number of seniors arrive at the Pleasanton Senior Center via the City of Pleasanton Paratransit Service. Some visit the center to socialize and enjoy a healthy lunch while others come monthly for health screenings and to meet with legal and financial counselors who provide free advice about taxes and the challenges of living independently at an advanced age. Finally, some visit the center for education, to learn computer skills, take health and wellness classes or to participate in support groups.
The City of Pleasanton provides for the Senior Center and professional staff to operate its programs and activities. However, like many public tax supported programs the Center welcomes private contributions and donations to enhance its mission to provide new programs and opportunities for a dynamic generation of older adults.
